The Geoffrey R. Weller Library of the University of Northern British Columbia, seeks applicationsfor an energetic and innovative individual for the position of Digital Initiatives Librarian. Reporting
to the University Librarian and working collaboratively with librarian members, staff, faculty, and
the University Information Technology Department, the primary role of this position is the
assessment and monitoring of emerging information technology as well as to manage, maintain, and develop the library’s digital infrastructure.
Responsibilities of this position also include, but are not limited to: supervising library IT support
staff, providing leadership and direction with web design and usability, overseeing customization of
access enhancements to web applications related to the library’s integrated library system, eresources, and online services and resources, providing leadership, assistance and support to library staff in the development of library related web-pages and web-based applications used in library instruction, administering the Library’s web content management system, providing technical
oversight and expertise for the development and managements of UNBC’s digital institutional
repository and electronic publishing platforms by coordinating activities of key library staff and the
university community engaged in dissemination of scholarship in a variety of digital formats,
providing technical expertise and liaising with the Archives in the continued development and
enhancement of the Northern BC Archives digital infrastructure, and providing reference (evening
and weekend work may be required), instruction, liaison, and collection development in designated
subject areas.
Librarian members at the Geoffrey R. Weller Library participate in committee work and engage with
the professional community through association involvement, professional development, and
research and scholarship.
Qualifications and Requirements:
A graduate degree from an ALA accredited program in Library and Information Studies. Experience
with the delivery of digital library services is required as is experience with staff supervision and
demonstrated progressive management responsibilities. The successful candidate must be a highly
motivated self-starter who is flexible and able to work independently and as a team member in a
challenging and changing environment. The incumbent will be able to manage complex
responsibilities in a timely and effective manner. Excellent communication, interpersonal,
analytical/critical thinking and organizational skills are required.
