Co-located in Silver Spring, MD or Virtual Internship available with the Discovery, Innovative Information & Technology Services Team in the Division of Administrative and Laboratory Support (DALS) in the Office of Science & Engineering Laboratories (OSEL) at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Seeking a part-time Library & Information Science (LIS) graduate student to work with a dynamic, passionate and highly skilled team of LIS professionals in support of the OSEL Repository and possibly other projects during the Spring semester, with the option to start earlier.

The internship provides the opportunity to gain high-level professional experience in repository development, digital curation, and research analytics (bibliometrics) in a federal research and development setting.

This internship is located on the FDA White Oak campus in Silver Spring, Maryland, but virtual applicants will also be considered. We offer scheduling flexibility but require a minimum of 10 hours a week commitment. Selected candidates are encouraged to pursue internship or practicum academic credit options through their institutions.

Work Needed: The OSEL Repository (OR) is an enduring and user-friendly resource to access and share Office of Science & Engineering Laboratories’ intellectual assets, and tell our impact story. This is a digital repository development project using open source software and Agile Software Development Lifecycle methodology. Assist in the digital curation (indexing and metadata collection) of content submissions according to Dublin Core Metadata Initiative standards. Help is also needed to add research success story metadata and populate researcher ORCID profiles.

Qualifications:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; working knowledge of metadata and Dublin Core Metadata Initiative standards; interest in bibliographic utilities and repository platforms. Must be efficient but detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
