Description

This technologically adept, service-oriented librarian integrates quality information resources and services via Web programming. Manages electronic resources, integrates discovery service, maintains library website and blog. Assists with development of library content within course management system. Directs team of librarians providing reference via in-person consultation, email and chat. Participates in library instruction, departmental liaison and collection development programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Digital Resources and Services:
  • Maintain library website, library blog and other social media. Makes updates and plans enhancements
  • Maintain all database subscriptions and makes recommendations for new selections and cancellations
  • Communicate with vendors and SVA IT department to troubleshoot database access problems
  • Maintain electronic subscription budget. Collects and analyzes database usage for budget planning
  • Assist in implementation of discovery service
  • Develop outreach initiatives, including social media, special library events and programming
  • Communicate library interests and contributions in relation to campus-wide technology initiatives (institutional repositories, resource sharing, etc.)
Reference/Library Instruction:
  • Coordinate team of reference librarians, including development of online guides, tutorials and surveys
  • Schedule reference services, and participates as part of reference team
  • Work one weekday evening until 8pm at the reference desk
  • Supervise part-time evening/weekend librarian
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in library-wide collection development program
  • Participate in library liaison program. Has responsibility for outreach to selected undergraduate and graduate departments
  • Serve on special library committees, e.g., space planning, technology, new website planning
  • Maintain memberships in professional organizations; attends relevant conferences, symposia and classes
QUALIFICATIONS
  • MLS or equivalent degree from ALA-accredited institution
  • Minimum two years of reference and library instruction experience in an academic, public or special library setting
  • Demonstrated web programming experience
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in libraries
  • Strong service orientation with commitment to outreach and campus relations
  • Self directed, with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • Academic background in the history of art or general humanities
