The University of Nevada, Reno seeks a dynamic individual for the new position of Knowledge Access & Discovery Librarian to provide a cohesive vision in designing, implementing, and assessing metadata-reliant processes and other knowledge discovery strategies for enabling intellectual access to the research resources in all formats of the UNR Libraries. Working in a collaborative team environment, the position will be responsible for leading library-wide efforts to optimize the power of a suite of discovery and retrieval systems designed to help expose the Libraries' investment in collections, and leveraging relevant technologies to provide user-centric services for information access and discovery. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated a strong interest in metadata issues, emerging technologies, and user information needs; have communication and interpersonal skills which enable collaboration; and demonstrate an ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Position Duties: *Spearhead the development of knowledge access strategies to expose the libraries' rich collections to library users *Collaborate with library staff and users to design, develop, and implement seamless (or near seamless) information access services around user workflows, leveraging existing library discovery tools (which include the library online catalog, next-generation faceted discovery tools, e-journal/e-book portals, and link resolver) and relevant technologies *Lead library initiatives and projects that have a knowledge access emphasis to our users *Obtain and maintain a current understanding of UNR users' information seeking behaviors and research workflow *Maintain a working knowledge of a variety of library and bibliographic metadata formats, both traditional and emerging *Work to eliminate/reduce service silos and make library resources more findable by library users, regardless of location or format *Monitor trends and best practices in library resource access and discoverability; recommend and facilitate improvements to existing tools and workflows as appropriate *Proactively propose and/or develop projects to preempt resource access problems before they occur *Participate in updating, customizing, and integrating interfaces for e-resource access and discovery, including vendor platforms and the library's discovery tools *Identify and acquire selected skills needed to support various projects, such as graphic/web design or programming languages

Minimum Qualifications: A Master's degree from an ALA-accredited Library/Information Science Program. Two years of experience working in an academic/research library. Knowledge of metadata standards such as MARC, RDA, and Dublin Core. Knowledge (through experience or coursework) of current models, practices, and tools used by academic libraries for the access and discoverability of e-resources. Experience managing cataloging and/or metadata processes in an academic/research library. Evidence of innovative, results-oriented approaches to processes and services development. Ability to meet requirements for tenure and promotion. Experience with Innovative Interfaces, Inc.'s Millennium system and experience managing projects are desirable.

Salary range: $56,733 to $72,007. Benefits include TIAA/CREF and other retirement options; 24 days vacation annually; generous sick leave policy; tuition benefits for self and family; no state income tax or FICA.
