Background:
Lakeshores Library System seeks a versatile individual to join a closely-knit team in developing and deploying a diverse range of services to its membership of fifteen public libraries and two school districts. This position requires self-motivation and natural interest in engaging with technology platforms and problems. Courteous and tactful communication skills are also critical. New library science and/or IT professionals are encouraged to apply as well as those with in-depth experience.

About LLS:
LLS is a federated library system established in 1983. We currently serve Racine and Walworth Counties, and our office is located in Waterford WI. We are a State-funded agency,  providing materials delivery, professional consulting  and other services. On the technology side, we operate a number of system services including a Wide Area Network (Cisco based), an Integrated Library System (SirsiDynix Symphony 3.4.1 sp5), web servers (CentOS-based Apache), open-source library applications developed in-house (Php, Perl, MySQL, XML, web service calls). In addition to providing services according to Wisconsin state statutes, we strive to assist our member libraries in making the most effective uses of funding, and to generate value for libraries & library users by engaging in innovative projects with the resources at our disposal.

How this job fits in:
This position is designed to work closely with our System IT Manager and the LLS Administrator. Primary responsibilities will generally revolve around supporting the ILS, and supporting the local IT services offered to our member libraries (maintaining, diagnosing and fixing library IT problems -including pc support- both remotely and on-site). Based on your skill set and the organizational needs of the day, you’ll also lead or collaborate on other projects. The successful applicant will also have a great deal of opportunity to find her/his niche in the organization.

Here are some competencies that we’re keeping an eye out for based on our current needs (these are examples, not a list of requirements):
  •     Web languages & standards
  •     Content Management Systems (Drupal, WordPress)
  •     Software Training / Education Background
  •     Working knowledge of Unix or Linux Operating Systems
  •     Java, Perl or other scripting/programming languages
  •     MS Desktop Support / Active Directory
  •     Server Hardware / Virtualization
  •     Web Services, XML
  •     Graphic Design experience
  •     Marketing experience (secondary to IT skills)
  •     MySQL, Oracle or other database applications
  •     SirsiDynix Symphony administration, API training
  •     Cisco IOS / Networking
  •     MLIS, CSci or MIS background preferred
  •     Other technology expertise you have that we should know about


Compensation & benefits:
  •     Anticipated beginning salary range is $45K-50K (DOQ)
