Description

Penn State University Libraries Department for Information Technologies (I-Tech) is seeking a Systems Developer. The successful candidate will provide advanced applications support, systems administration, and planning support for library enterprise systems .

Responsibilities include providing specialized guidance and planning for library systems and integration with university systems , ensuring proper operation, testing, debugging and implementing enterprise application software; analyzing system performance, tuning to achieve optimal performance; project management and leadership in new technology initiatives; collaboration with users and service managers to investigate needs and recommend software applications solutions; mentoring colleagues in the unit in application support and providing regular communication to library employees.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required skills include: demonstrated experience supporting applications in a LINUX environment; ensuring proper operation of enterprise application software, configuration and patching; demonstrated experience managing, configuring and scripting Apache web servers in load balanced environments; performance monitoring and tuning, demonstrated experience in documentation of procedures; ability to effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred skills include: experience managing Drupal; Solaris and Windows operating systems , UNIX scripting; implementation of SSL certificates and Cosign; familiarity with ITIL concepts; familiarity with project management tools and techniques; demonstrated leadership skills, excellent customer service and demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team with diverse constituencies.

Previous library experience is a plus. The successful candidate will be an energetic self-starter, curious and excited about supporting enterprise applications in a dynamic environment.
