Albion College is searching for a full-time Archivist / Librarian. The Archivist is responsible to the Library Co-Directors for the administration of the Albion College Archives and the Albion College Library Special Collections and the Rare Books Collection. This includes selection, preservation and management of historical material in all formats relating to the history of Albion College, its faculty, staff, administration and students. The Archivist will work with the Web Services and Emerging Technologies Librarian to create, update, and maintain the College Archives digital repository. The Archivist will help develop and oversee the policies of the Archives and other specialized collections belonging to Albion College. The Archivist will also maintain the Archives of the West Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church (housed in the Albion College Library) and respond to research requests.

The Archivist will administer the College Archives portion of the Records Retention Program of the College, and will serve as a Librarian on the staff and as an advisor on preservation issues. The Archivist will develop programs to increase access to archival material, will plan the annual Schleg Endowed Lecture, will participate regularly in professional organizations, area and regional archive/museum/library activities and workshops, will maintain current awareness of concepts, trends, and procedures in the Archival and Library fields through the professional literature and electronic listservs, etc., and will work to establish professional contacts to participate in the exchange of ideas and to promote cooperation, networking, and resource sharing.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Librarianship (with an Archives focus), Archives, or a related field; strong background in archival research methodology and local history with demonstrated skills in oral and written communication; experience in managing varied historical collections in an archives, museum or historical agency; familiarity with Archivist’s Toolkit and DACS and metadata standards, as well as familiarity with digital repository programs (i.e., Islandora). Some experience in library reference services is desirable. Ability to instruct in research skills using primary sources and conservation practices is very helpful.
