This position will plan, direct, and take a leadership role in the support of the digital library and library technology systems used by the Lehigh University Community.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead and direct library technology infrastructure projects and planning
    • Plan and design library systems and servers
    • Analyze content, functions, features, data, input/output requirements, etc
    • Document and maintain schematics for overall library technology architecture
    • Collaborate with Systems and Network Administration on system administration
    • Manage, monitor, and plan library technology budget
    • Advise Vice Provost, LTS Directors, LTS staff, and campus community on library technology related matters.
  • Lead and direct library technology projects and staff resources
    • Plan, direct, and allocate library technology team resources
    • Coordinate with Digital Library Project Coordinator on staff requirements for grant-funded projects
    • Direct staff resources to ensure project completion on time
    • Request and document special project human resource requirements
    • Align projects with other LTS Directors as needed.
  • Research and identify new information system technologies and software pertinent to integrated library services, electronic resource management, digital library, and institutional repository development
    • Research and explore new information system technologies through partnerships and professional literature
    • Represent Lehigh, and participate in local, regional, and national projects
    • Give presentations on Lehigh innovations in library technologies at national and regional meetings
    • Publish research and development efforts for managing electronic resources
    • Prepare time and cost estimates for potential new technologies and for completing potential projects
  • Direct and manage digital library (DL) systems
    • Direct DL project resources, collaborations and partnerships
    • Install and test software and hardware updates of DL systems on a regular basis
    • Evaluate new DL products
    • Participate in LTS-wide data management planning and storage initiatives.
    • Collaborate with Systems and Network Administration on system administration
  • Direct, plan, and evaluate efforts for multi-institutional projects, such as the Kuali Open Library Environment (OLE) initiative.
    • Participate on functional and leadership boards and committees.
    • Direct staff on project volunteer teams, in conjunction with Director of Library Access
    • Plan data migration and upgrade for Kuali OLE in conjunction with Director of Library Access
    • Plan and coordinate integrations between projects (such as Kuali OLE) and other enterprise applications, such as Oracle Identity Management and Banner.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Library Science, or Management Information Systems preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five to eight years related work experience
  • Technical skills required include data modeling, database design, business analysis techniques, and managing full life cycle development.
  • Working knowledge of programming techniques and languages, SQL, and managing server systems particularly in Linux and Unix environments
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and determine appropriate hardward and software features for implementation.
  • Previous programming experience preferred
  • Ability to complete projects on time and on budget, and report on status and progress
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good analytical and decision making skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills, ability to work independently
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and advanced graphics software
  • Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
