Description
McMaster University Library is seeking a Digital Repository Librarian to support and develop the various repository systems in use at the library, and promote these systems to the greater university community and beyond. The position coordinates with library staff to ensure efficient operation of the digital repository system, and supervises a team of student digitization workers. Key responsibilities include: developing the technical infrastructure necessary to support the Library’s digitization strategy; leading and/or consulting on digital projects/initiatives that develop digital collections; providing training and support for other library staff in the development of digital collections; and ensuring adherence to accepted digital preservation policies and practices. Supporting and coordinating the creation of metadata for digital collections is a key activity.
This is a great position for a highly creative librarian interested in having significant influence over the development of a comprehensive digital collection architecture. While we have chosen our core tools--namely Fedora and Islandora--there remains plenty of freedom to determine the ultimate shape and look of the entire array of digital collections. As in any large academic library, there will also be a constant series of new challenges and projects to tackle, and this position will lead the choice of tools and frameworks to move these forward.
This is a full time continuing appointment reporting to the Associate University Librarian, Library and Learning Technologies.
