Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Performance

Responsible for the integration, implementation, and maintenance of library software and systems to provide user services and enhance staff productivity.  Coordinate and manage the selection, maintenance and ongoing development of library systems, including but not limited to the Integrated Library System (Innovative), Inter-library loan/document delivery (ILLiad ), electronic course & audio reserves (Ares / Variations), special collections management (Aeon), electronic resource access & discovery (360Core/Link, Summon), client-server platforms, and networking.  Serve as the primary contact with library software vendors.
Work collaboratively with library and campus units to explore innovative use of emerging information and web technologies that integrate services from separate applications, including library databases and services supporting digital collections.
Coordinate with Library Systems on server management to troubleshoot and resolve system functional issues.  May supervise staff responsible for maintenance of software applications and servers.
Provide management and statistical reports on systems operations. Prepare and distribute local system documentation as necessary.  Advises on the Libraries’ IT budget, negotiation, and purchasing.
Educate Libraries administration and staff of all upgrades or enhancement and their implications for the user community.

Service

Keeps abreast of relevant technology, literature, and studies for current awareness of trends, developments, and best practices in librarianship, systems administration, and the integration of technology into library services.
Represents the Library nationally, and acts as primary liaison between vendors and library system users, and the Libraries.
Serves on/participates in Libraries and University organizations, committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program, Information Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Two years working experience with an integrated library system, preferably Innovative Interfaces, Inc., in a medium to large research library or similar organization.
Experience developing and/or supporting library solutions for library workflow processes (digital publishing, document delivery, cataloging, interlibrary loan, etc.) and an understanding of the application of technology to scholarship and teaching.
Experience developing and administering web-based solutions using CSS, HTML, XML and related technologies.
Understanding of the MARC record; familiarity with metadata standards and formats for library systems such as Dublin Core, METS, EAD, and/or MODS preferred.
Working knowledge of server operating systems, preferably UNIX and/or Linux.
Demonstrated success in project management, including ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with both technical and library staff with widely-varied skill sets and technical knowledge.
Strong organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated initiative
Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated service commitment to library users.
Strong aptitude for acquiring new skills relevant to library systems.

PREFERRED

Experience with scripting and/or programming languages such as Perl, JavaScript, and/or SQL.
Experience with the implementation of a discovery system and integration of third-party applications into library systems.
Knowledge of user authentication/authorization protocols, including CAS, Shibboleth, and LDAP.
Experience supervising and mentoring staff.
Experience with assessment of technology services.

This is a non-tenure track faculty appointment at the Librarian Assistant/Associate Professor rank.
