Description
The Library Data Migration Specialist will extract, transform, and prepare library data for ingestion for our Summon and Intota customers. In addition to extracting or assisting customers with the data extraction this role will create and maintain the tools and documentation used for such actions. Implementation teams and customers will rely on this role as a consultant during the data extraction and verification phase of Intota and Summon implementations as well as for ongoing maintenance for subsequent data extractions.
Some of what you'll be doing:
- Assist customers and internal Implementation staff to identify and extract necessary data from customers' systems for use in Summon and Intota deployments
- Analyze extracted data and confirm they are consumable by existing ingestion processes
- Clean up and manipulate data as needed to accommodate ingestion
- Create or document tools, scripts, and procedures to achieve the data extraction/transformation for various ILS databases
- Consult on customer data load and clean up processes either as part of or preparatory to Summon and Intota implementations
- Work effectively with project managers and client stakeholders to understand and refine project requirements and deadlines
- Communicate complex issues effectively to internal staff, customers, and third party ILS vendors
What you'll have experience doing:
- Bachelors' degree or higher in computer programming or related field, plus at least 5 years' related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Successful experience doing deployment, support, programming, or other technical aspects of library automation systems
- Broad knowledge of current library automation vendors and products
- Technical understanding of ILS vendor data storage formats and suitable extraction processes
- Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to professionally interact with a diverse blend of personalities to reach resolution and maintain strong relationships
- Familiarity with library operations and practices, particularly technical services and library automation systems administration
- Experience with library data formats, including ISO 2709
- Knowledge of current metadata standards, including RDA, Dublin Core, EAD, DACS, MARCXML, MODS, METS, TEI, and other emerging data standards
- Experience with ILS data formats current in the market
- High comfort level with Linux, a shell prompt, scripting, SQL, PHP, XSL and programming
- Strong knowledge of MARC cataloging standards and practices
- Experience producing high-quality deliverables (documents; analyses; project plans) in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
- Comfortable advising and discussing on job-related topics with senior management
- Critical thinking and process analysis Bonus Points!
- Masters' degree in Library Science
- Fluency in languages other than English
- Experience operating or managing an integrated library system is strongly preferred
- Project Management experience is valued
