Description
The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO) of Columbia University, located in Palisades, Rockland County, NY invites applications for a Web/Database Application Programmer position. Under the direct supervision of the Lead Systems Analyst/Programmer, the Web/Database Application Programmer will deploy web/database applications for research programs in the LDEO Geoinformatics Center. Work will focus on Semantic Web technologies and geospatial data sets. Develop solutions for grant-funded initiatives including Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R), NSF EarthCube, and Integrated Earth Data Applications (IEDA). Must exercise creativity and/or expertise in the normal performance of duties.Eligibility requirements include a B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent required with 2-4 years related experience. Demonstrated experience in scientific programming required. Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, XML/JSON, and RDF. Experience with Web application frameworks SQL, RDF query language (SPARQL), and general scripting languages (e.g. Python, PHP, Perl) a strong asset. Working knowledge of map projections an asset.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Position is temporary for one-year with the possibility of extension.
